Adding Tippet to a Fly Fishing Line

As a newcomer to the world of fly fishing, it can be confusing at first to learn the ins and the outs of essential equipment, including tippet. Contrary to what you may have previously thought, tippet is not added to a line but rather to the leader. One surefire strategy for securely fastening the tippet to the leader is performing a basic tie knot, as is demonstrated in this video.

The tie knot trick consists of a few steps, from merging the line and tippet in a surgeon’s knot, to looping then overhand knotting them, until finally slipping the two through another loop and tightening. To see this demonstrated more thoroughly, check out the video here. You can also learn more about prepping your fly fishing gear by consulting with the team in our fishing lodge.
