Fly Fishing in Southwest Montana

Orvis Fly Fishing Schools: Healing Waters Lodge

August 17-22 or August 22-27

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Healing Waters

Fly to Bozeman, MT and pick up a rental car (or contact Orvis to arrange a private shuttle transfer) for the 90-minute drive to the lodge. We recommend arriving at the lodge before 5 pm so that you can settle in before dinner. Upon arrival at the lodge, head to the casting pond or join your fellow travel companions for hors d’oeuvres on the sun porch for an overview of the fishing days planned. You’ll dine on gourmet cuisine and handpicked wine pairings on the lodge’s porch overlooking the pond as you anticipate tomorrow’s activities.

Days 2: Class Day

Healing Waters lodge is a perfect location to learn how to fly fish or to improve your skills. Our exceptional instructors can help anyone progress in their fly fishing. Learn how to cast just outside the lodge on the pond then put your newfound or refined skills to the test floating down some of the best trout rivers in the West. Whether you are a beginner who would like to get into the sport, or a skilled angler looking to progress to the next level, we have the knowledge and expertise to help. We provide all the newest Orvis equipment, fantastic amenities, and a beautiful setting for the ultimate Fly-Fishing School. In this comprehensive school, you will have the opportunity to fish from drift boats or get out and wade for different species of trout, such as brown and rainbow. Learn how to catch trout in many different scenarios. You will learn how to fish with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers and learn how to read the water and select the right fly. The skills and memories you gain here will certainly last a lifetime.

Days 3-5: Fishing Days

After a homemade breakfast, you’ll meet your fishing guide and head out for a full day on the water. Your guide will discuss your options for each day based on your preferences and the local conditions. Healing Waters Lodge offers numerous angling opportunities. Choose from floating the Madison, Jefferson, Big Hole or Beaverhead, or walk wade on smaller meadow streams through beautiful private ranches. You may also choose to test your skills against wily spring creek trout on local spring-fed streams. Often these streams require reservations in advance, so if you are interested in a spring creek day during your trip, be sure to inquire in advance.

Day 6: Departure from Healing Waters

After breakfast, head back to Bozeman for flights home or extend your trip to another Orvis destination in Montana.
