Our Waters — The Best of Montana

At Healing Waters Lodge, we guide our guests on some of Montana’s most iconic blue ribbon trout streams—the Beaverhead, Big Hole, Ruby, Jefferson, Madison, and Smith Rivers. Each offers its own unique character: from the freestone beauty of the Big Hole and its wild trout diversity, to the tailwater precision of the Beaverhead, known for large, hard-fighting browns. The Ruby flows through quiet ranchland with technical dry fly opportunities, while the Jefferson offers solitude and classic Western scenery. The Madison, fast-paced and full of energy, delivers legendary action with some of the most consistent fishing in the state. And the Smith River—Montana’s most coveted float trip—winds through a remote limestone canyon offering unmatched beauty, seclusion, and memorable multi-day adventures. Together, these rivers create a world-class angling experience rooted in variety, challenge, and the unspoiled spirit of Montana.

Smith River Expeditions

Accessible only by permit, the Smith River is a true wilderness experience—an unforgettable five-day float through limestone canyons, hidden springs, and towering cliffs. For guests of Healing Waters Lodge, this river represents fly fishing at its most remote, memorable, and rewarding.

I have stayed at more than a few fishing lodges and this was my favorite. The number of fishable areas nearby allow you to fish a lot of different types of fishing. I would highly recommend fishing the private waters on Ruby and Mill Creek if you are an experienced fly fisher. Don't let the small waters fool you, there are large brown trout in these waters.
